Not just in Canada, you say?

With the collapse of the Weekly Scoop by Torstar and the summary dismissal of the Canadian staff of Hello! magazine by Rogers, observers could be forgiven for thinking that Canadians just can't get this celebrity publishing thing right.

Well, according to a recent poll among media planners and buyers in the U.S., several celeb titles are likely candidates for the short drop soon and it's because the field is so crowded. Media Life asked the people who place the advertising what they thought was going to happen and here are some of the results:
  • More than 3/4 of the respondents (78.6%) said there was simply not enough room for all the titles
  • 42.9% picked OK!, a title launched by UK publisher Richard Desmond, as the first title likely to fold
  • 34.3% said the second most likely was Life & Style (Bauer Publications) because it was too similar to In Touch, the weekly from which it sprang
  • When asked which titles did the worst job, Star (31.8%), In Touch (22.7%) and Life & Style (19.7%) were all included.
